• Does Georgia Tech provide anti-virus software for home use?

  Yes.  Anti-virus software can be downloaded by clicking here. You will need to select your Operating System and GT affiliation (faculty, staff or student).

  For Windows Systems use VirusScan Enterprise
  For Macintosh Systems use McAfeeVirex
  For Linux Systems use VirusScan

  After you make your selection, you will have to supply your gtID# and password in order to complete the software download.

  How do I install the latest updates for my windows computer?

  There are several ways to update your Windows 2000/XP computer at home. One is by using the Windows update icon from your start menu.

  Click the 'Start' button in the lower left corner of the screen
  
  Find the 'Windows Update' icon in the programs menu listing (A browser window will launch and may ask if you want to install a patch  management application, You will need to click 'Yes' on this)

  The screen will show the "express" or "custom" install choices. The "express" option will install all updates needed, on the other hand, the  "custom" option will allow you to choose which updates to install. (better option)

  If there are Critical/ High-priority Updates and Service Packs that have not been installed, Click on that Selection in the menu and it will show these items in the main window.

  Select the items you would like to install by clicking on add.

  When you have selected all of the items you would like to install click the 'review and install updates link at the top of the main area of the page. A listing will appear with all of the items you selected. If you would like to install these items then click on Install Now

  After all of the Critical Updates and Service patches have been installed, you may be prompted to reboot.

  Also, If your updates are set up to be done automatically, a pop up will prompt every time new updates are ready to be installed. Let it run to update your machine.

  Will the ISG staff work with my home computer?

  No. The ISG staff will install and maintain GT owned machines only.
